Police hurl teargas to ECD pupils in Nyalenda slum, Kisumu during IEBC demo

I am Beatrice Schnelli-Okello, Founder of St Peter’s Awich Kodingo ECD (Early Childhood Development) Center located in the expansive Nyalenda Slum (the second largest slum in Kenya).

During the Anti-IEBC protests held in Kisumu on Monday, armed Police Officers unlawfully entered into the school premises and hurled teargas canisters in the compound, without any due regard for the children aged between 3-7 years and staffers. It took the intervention of teachers and good Samaritans to evacuate and aid the little ones to safety.

I fail to understand this kind of attack on small children.

It is unfathomable to involve innocent children, within school premises and further risk their lives. The children are traumatized and some have suffered injuries.

Please share this widely! And help seek justice for the underprivileged kids of St. Peters ECD Nyalenda.

Thank you in advance for your rapid intervention in this case.
